Millions of Android Gadget Threatened Danger
Jakarta - Millions of smartphones and tablet PC running the Android operating system is expected to be in danger . This is related to the discovery of a software bug Heartbleed on OpenSSL encryption system .This bug can reveal sensitive data that is stored in the server memory . More chillingly, the hackers could create a ' duplicate key ' to decrypt any data encrypted via OpenSSL technology . As a result , important information such as passwords can be transported .
Google is stating that most versions of the Android operating system is immune from the security gap . But apparently there are exceptions in version 4.1.1 or often called Jelly Bean , which can be penetrated Heartbleed . This version was released by Google in 2012 .Reported by the Chicago Tribune and quoted on Wednesday ( 04/16/2014 ) , the Android version is still used in millions of smartphones and tablets . Statistics from Google said that about 34 % of all Android devices are still using Jelly Bean .
Google itself claims only about 10 % of active devices Jelly Bean could Heartbleed affected . It is not yet clear whether there will be a patch or update to the phone that threatened Heartbleed .
The problem , Android updates tend to be slow during this time . And though Google provides patches , apparently still need to process from the manufacturer or operator to perform the update .
"One of the biggest issues with Android is the update can be very long . Manufacturing devices and operators have to do something first on the patch and usually a long process , " said Michael Shaulov , Chief Executive Lacoon Security .
On the other hand , Microsoft claims the Windows Phone OS based smartphone safe from impact Heartbleed homemade . While the BlackBerry is ready to launch the latest update of fuel that could ward off potential Heartbleed .
