5 Interesting Facts Stephen Hawking Rarely Knows

Jakarta - Stephen Hawking is a big name in the world of science. Impossible people do not know this British scientist. Hawking successfully made the concept of complex Physics becomes easy to understand the common people. He is the author of the best-selling book 'A Brief History of Time' and is known by the Big Bang theory he put forward. Physicist born in Oxford, England died at the age of 76 years on Wednesday (14/3/2018) in Cambridge, England.

Long life is a boon to Lucasian professor of mathematics at the University of Cambridge, because he was convicted only two years old when known to have rare amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) disease at the age of 21 years. Read also: Physicist Stephen Hawking Died Behind the popularity of this important figure, there are a number of interesting facts about this British scientist, who not many people know, as quoted from various sources on Wednesday (14/3/2018).

1. Considered the reincarnation of Galileo Galilei Hawking was born on January 8, 1942. At that time, the world of science commemorated the 300th anniversary of the death of the famous medieval physicist Galileo Galileo who died on January 8, 1642. Because of this similarity, many people regard Hawking as Galileo's reincarnation. In addition, there are some similarities between the two, namely physicists who are equally famous and never quarreled with religious leaders.

The heliocentric theory (the earth around the sun) expressed by Galileo was not accepted by the church of its time. Likewise Hawking, Pope Franciscus I questioned Hawking who embraced atheism and Pope John Paul II did not support him studying the origin of the universe. According to the Pope, there should be no argument about the creation of the universe because it is God. Meanwhile, according to Hawking, science can explain about the creation of the universe.

2. Losing bets on the theory of 'black hole' When Hawking was convinced that his science theory was correct, he did not retreat to fight for it. He is not even afraid to bet anything. But at one point, he was wrong and he sincerely admitted it. In 1997, he was betting with fellow scientists John Preskill and Kip Throne about the concept of black holes or black holes stating that nothing could escape the black hole that breaks into the foundations of quantum mechanics.

Finally Hawking admitted his mistake with his statement in 2004 while teaching at the Scientific Conference event.

 3. Have a robot voice The ALS disease suffered by Hawking at the age of 21 years not only made him paralyzed. Hawking could not speak either. He also uses technology by talking through a small computer attached to his wheelchair. When he wants to talk, he has to type first what he wants to say. Then, the sound synthesizer on the computer will issue a robotic sound as written by Hawking.

Interestingly, a computer device called DECTalk DTC01 made Hawking speak English with American access, not a genuine English accent. The object is quite bongsor and fragile because it is old (made in 1986). But Hawking has no intention of upgrading to a more modern device. Hawking has a reason for that. "I keep using it, because I have not heard a better sound from this robot, and because I already feel close and identified with this," he said.

4. Standard academic grades Hawking is known genius worldwide, in his school days just a 'regular' child with a standard academic value. But gradually, he began to show his talent in Mathematics. He began to be called as the successor of Albert Einstein. Clearly, his perseverance and talent in this field make him a leading physicist. He also holds an academic position as a professor of linguistics in the 17th Mathematics field at the University of Cambridge. This position was once held by Isaac Newton in 1699-1702.

5. Celebrities Not many scientists appear in the entertainment world, Hawking one of them. That's why in pop culture, Hawking is also revered as a celebrity and several times appearing in movies or TV series. In 1993, Hawking had appeared in the movie The Big Bang Theory. Later that year, Hawking became a cameo in the Star Trek movie: The Next Generation.
