Facebook Acquisition for WhatsApp Ask to Canceled
Jakarta - Facebook has agreed to acquire messaging service WhatsApp worth USD 19 billion , the process is not final because it is still awaiting approval from regulators . But a privacy agency requested that the acquisition was blocked .
Institute of Electronic Privacy Information Center and the Center for Digital Democracy ( EPIC ) cast a complaint to the Federal Trade Commission regulators in the United States , which called for the acquisition of Facebook to WhatsApp investigated . Therefore , suspicion would collect Facebook user data WhatsApp for business interests .
" Users rely on WhatsApp WhatsApp to maintain the privacy of communications meeka . Complaint we requested that the FTC investigate whether there are privacy protection WhatsApp to protect user data from Facebook , " said Julia Horwitz of EPIC .
If Facebook is collecting the data WhatsApp later , then it was regarded as a dirty business practices . So EPIC expect if the FTC approved the acquisition of Facebook on WhatsApp , it must be ensured WhatsApp user data will not be accessed by Facebook .
Facebook Party itself directly respond to the complaint . They try to assert that the user's privacy WhatsApp WhatsApp remains a priority and will remain an independent company .
" As we have said repeatedly , WhatsApp will operate as a separate company and will honor the commitment to privacy and security , " the statement quoted Facebook's Reuters on Friday ( 07/03/2014 ) .
